LANSING–Senator-elect Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, will chair the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State Police & Military Affairs during his first term beginning January 1, 2011.
Colbeck has also been appointed by Senate Majority Leader-elect Randy Richardville to serve as vice chair of the Senate Reforms, Restructuring, and Reinventing Committee and vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.
“The primary role of government is to secure the rights of the governed. Without the honorable services of our state police and military, we would not be able to effectively secure these rights,” Colbeck said. “The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee plays an important role in supporting our state police, military and veterans and I am honored to serve as committee chair.”
During the 2010 election, one of Colbeck’s key campaign issues was the need to create a leaner, more efficient government structure that will meet the needs of Michigan’s citizens and encourage job creation. Colbeck was pleased with his appointment as the vice chair of the Senate Reforms, Restructuring and Reinventing Committee.
“It is possible to cut spending without crippling the services that we provide for our citizens. To do so, though, will require a fresh look at how we can become truly ‘service-oriented’ with the structure of our government,” Colbeck said.
“The Senate Reforms, Restructuring and Reinventing Committee gives us the opportunity to tackle these challenges, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the new governor to see the needed reforms enacted,” concluded Colbeck.
A complete list of committee assignments is expected to be released shortly by Senate Majority Leader-elect Richardville and will detail the rest of Colbeck’s committee assignments in addition to his chair and vice chair positions.
