In my role as chair of the Senate’s Appropriations Subcommittee on State Police and Military Affairs, it is my honor to work with and for the men and women who serve our state in a law enforcement capacity. Today, as we in government service are faced with the loss of one of our public servants, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the colleagues and fellow officers of Michigan State Police Trooper Jeffrey Werda.
Just as we remember his colleagues, we also keep in our thoughts and prayers Trooper Werda’s family. Most of us will never realize the sacrifices the family members of our law enforcement officers make in order to support their loved ones as they serve as public protectors. I wish to extend my sincerest condolences to the family of Trooper Werda. I would like them to know that there are many thousands of men and women across the state who join me in wishing them peace and comfort through this difficult time.
