LANSING, Mich.—On Tuesday night, Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, issued the statement below following Gov. Rick Snyder’s fifth State of the State address at the Capitol in Lansing.
“I believe that Governor Snyder’s State of the State address set the correct tone for the next four years when he outlined his plans to make government more people-focused and less program-focused. We have many government programs that do not seem to make it beyond good intentions and into good results. It is time to rethink the politics-as-usual formula of simply adding more government programs to address problems, and start refocusing limited government resources on producing outcomes that truly benefit our citizens.
“I continue to be encouraged by the governor’s use of scorecards to track our progress on topics of concern for our residents. It is refreshing to see us moving past throwing taxpayer dollars at problems, and instead tracking how effective those expenditures really are.
“During my second term, I pledge to continue my service in a manner that focuses on what is noble, true, excellent and praiseworthy. I will continue to seek the best solutions to challenges faced by our residents, and not simply acquiesce to the pressures of political expediency. In the final analysis, striving for the best solutions will make our state’s comeback even stronger.”
