Sen. Colbeck’s bill to save schools millions of dollars signed

LANSING―State Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, joined Gov. Rick Snyder (left) at the state Capitol on Tuesday as legislation to save school districts millions of dollars by standardizing school board election dates was signed into law.

Public Acts 232 and 233, sponsored by Colbeck and Rep. Kurt Heise, require school districts to hold elections on the November general election date of even-numbered years. The move could save some school districts upward of $8 million over a two-year election cycle.
